A very unusual turn of events for the August 14th race has changed the potential season outcome.
The #9 who was the points leader by 24 points damaged his car in practice laps directly before the race and borrowed a different car for each main event to try to keep the points loss for the season championship to a minimum. It would appear that the loss of points for the #9 team will put the Wine Country Motor Sports Team in the Championship lead, unofficially, by as many as 15 points. Official results will be posted soon!
Qualifying-1st
The #99 charged forward to take the pole position in qualifying and then drew a 4 for the inverted start for the 1st Main Event.
1st Main Event-6th Win
Frank Borges started in 4th position and kept the #99 car out of harms way many times throughout the race. Just 3 laps into the race there was a 5-car pile up that almost included the #99. The afternoon events have the sun shining on the back stretch of the track which makes it almost impossible to see what lies ahead. The caution lights were on and none of the cars could see the lights and Frank narrowly missed the wreck! There were several more cautions before the #99 took the lead on lap 11 only to have another caution before Frank reached the start/finish line and the restart reverted to the previous lap. By lap 13 the 99 Car was in the lead and kept his lead to take in his 6th win of the season!!!!!
2nd Main Event-2nd Place
Frank's consistancy in drawing large numbers for the race start inverts was all too evident as he drew an 8 puting him in 8th starting position for the 2nd Main Event. The #99 lived up to the challenge and started picking off cars one by one to move forward in the pack. Again the race was inundated with cautions that kept Frank on his toes to stay out of trouble. He moved up to 5th place by lap 18 and continued passing cars to move into 3rd place in lap 23. The #99 and the #54 brushed sides barely keeping the cars straight and on the track but both cars survived. The restart had the #99 in 4th. The second place car bumped the leader sending him spinning off the track which then put Frank in 3rd place. The new second place car had loose car body parts and was being black flagged for track safety. He kept racing and went on to win the race only to have it taken away with a disqualification. This moved the #99 into 2nd place! With an awsome 2nd place finish, the Wine Country Motor Sports Team is 10 points in the lead for the Track Championship. But as the Assisant Crew Chief, Michael George, says....."It ain't over 'til it's over". The September 4th race should be and exciting event.
